Etter besøket på District Six museet gikk vi gjennom det politiske/økonomiske sentrum av Cape Town til Company’s Garden. Rundt denne herlige oasen av skygge og grønnsvær i hjertet av Cape Town finner vi byens viktigste konsentrasjon av gamle bygninger og museer. Den ble etablert av Jan van Riebeeck i 1652, bare to uker etter han ankom Kapp-provinsen, for å forsyne nederlandske skip som passerte, ferske jordbruksvarer.
/ After the visit to the District Six Museum, we went through the political / economic center of Cape Town to Company’s Gardens. Around this lovely oasis of shade and green massively in the heart of Cape Town, we find the city’s main concentration of ancient buildings and museums. It was established by Jan van Riebeeck in 1652, just two weeks after he arrived Cape province, to supply Dutch ships passing, fresh agricultural products.
På 1700-tallet hadde det som ble anlagt som en grønnsakshage, utviklet seg til en velkjent botanisk hage. I dag er hagen et populært møtested for å innta lunsjen for folk som jobber i sentrum. Parkplenene inntas av flokker av ville duer og tamme ekorn, og det er praktfull utsikt til Taffelbergets forrevne klipper herfra.
/ In the 1700s it had which was filed as a vegetable garden, developed into a well-known botanical garden. Today the garden is a popular meeting place to enjoy lunch for people who work in the center. Park lawns occupied by flocks of wild pigeons and tame squirrels and there are magnificent views of Table Mountains rugged cliffs from here.
I Company’s Garden kan man finne Rhodes-statuen, nasjonalgalleriet hvis man er interessert i kunst, og Iziko Slave Lodge hvis man er interessert i slavehistorien i Cape Town. Anbefaler på det sterkeste å dra til denne hagen for en rolig piknik eller bare en liten gåtur. Ta med litt nøtter, så kanskje også du er så heldig å mate ekornene!
/ In the Company’s Garden, one can find the Rhodes Statue, the National Gallery if you are interested in art, and Iziko Slave Lodge if you are interested in slave history in Cape Town. Highly recommend going to this garden for a leisurely picnic or just a small walk. Bring nuts, so perhaps also you are lucky enough to feed the squirrels!
