Orienteringsdagen innebar også at vi besøkte Cape Point og Cape of Good Hope. To historiske steder i Sør-Afrika som de aller fleste har lest eller hørt om.
/ On the orientation day we also visited Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. Two historical places in South Africa that most people have heard or read about.
Første stopp var Kapp det gode håp. Tradisjonelt har dette stedet vært betraktet som vendepunktet mellom Atlanterhavet og Indiahavet. En konge av Portugal ga stedet navnet Kapp det gode håp som skulle angi at man etter forbiseilingen hadde et godt håp om å nå India. På denne attraksjonen var det mer enn nok av turister, det er helt sikkert. Vind var det også nok av!
/ First stop was Cape of Good Hope. Traditionally, this place has been regarded as the turning point between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. A king of Portugal gave the place the name Cape of Good Hope which would indicate that after passing the sailing one would have good hope of reaching India. On this attraction there was a lot of tourists, and a lot of wind as well. Beautiful spot, though!
Cape Point er en odde på sørspissen av Cape-halvøya, som er ganske kupert og det er et naturskjønt landstykke – virkelig. Cape Point ligger ca. 2,3 km unna Cape of Good Hope, derfor anbefaler jeg å besøke begge disse stedene når man først drar så langt fra Cape Town. Opp til Cape Point er det mange trapper, og på toppen er det ekstremt mye vind. Turen opp dit var likevel verdt det når man fikk utsikten over Atlanterhavet.
/ Cape Point is a promontory at the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula, which is quite hilly. Cape Point is about 2,3 km away from the Cape of Good Hope, therefore I recommend visiting both of these two places when you go so far from Cape Town. There’s a lot of stairs up to Cape Point, so you’ll have to prepare yourself for that. It’s also quite windy up there. The trip up there was still worth it when you got to see the amazing view of the horizon and the Atlantic.
